double award winning image

My image 'Fire At Dovestones' has received both a 'Guest Editor's Award' and a 'Highly Commended Award' from on-line photography magazine EPhotoZine.

The image depicts smoke from the fire on Ashway Hey, by Dovestones Reservoir, spreading across Saddleworth Moor at dawn, as the sunrise colours the clouds overhead.

cloudplay by andy hemingway

My image 'Cloudplay' has won a 'Guest Editor's Award' from the on-line photography magazine EPhotoZine.

The landscape photography image was taken in fleeting late afternoon light on Lamb Knoll, Saddleworth Moor. Lamb Knoll is an eroded plateau of rock outcrops and landslips, above Greenfield Brook.

mootland dawn winds guest editor award from EPZ

Moorland Dawn, sunrise on Saddleworth Moor, has won a Guest Editor's Award from on-line photography magazine, EPhotoZine.

Fearing the worst, brass monkeys everywhere avoided Saddleworth Moor on Saturday morning. Christ on a bike, it was cold! Maybe not a bad thing considering the climb up here. The views however made every agonising, lung busting step worthwhile. Not to mention heaving myself out of bed at 3.30am and striking out from the car park at 5.15am to reach the top for sunrise at 6.30am.

This is the view from Ashway Rocks above Yeoman Hay Reservoir. First light hits the slopes of Alderman's Hill and Alphin Pike beyond, with Dovestones Reservoir at their foot. Beyond Alphin, you can also see the high rise office blocks of Manchester from up here, although the wide angle aspect has pushed that too far back in the frame to be seen clearly.

A couple of minutes after this shot, clouds moved across the sun and within minutes, low cloud started to cloak the moor. The density and speed at which this moved was astonishing. From virtually clear skies to a white out within a few minutes. I was on a mission to find The Trinnicle on Raven Stones Brow but by the time I got there, the views up Greenfield Brook were lost in the mist.
